China Datang Corporation Pledges $600 million Investment in Renewable Energy

BEIJING: On the afternoon of October 16, 2023, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received Zou Lei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Datang Corporation during a courtesy call at the Third Belt and Road Forum in Beijing.

During the meeting, the Chinese businessman thanked the Cambodian government for supporting his company’s investment in a 120MW hydropower project and a 290 km high-voltage substation from Phnom Penh to Battambang under the leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The Chairman expressed confidence in the new administration under Hun Manet and pledged a $600 million investment in solar and wind energy projects to align with the government’s new economic Pentagon Strategy.

The Prime Minister welcomed the investment and thanked Chinese companies that have invested in energy projects in the Kingdom. He also expressed support and encouragement to other companies' investment projects in the energy sector in Cambodia, especially those related to technology transfer and renewable energy. He also encouraged companies to focus on investing in new technologies that can further strengthen efficiency and competitive pricing.
